NHRC chief: Rehabilitate Abhaynagar victims

National Human Rights Commission Chairman Professor Dr Mizanur Rahman has asked the government to rehabilitate the affected people at Malopara, Abhaynagar upazila.

The NHRC chief made the urge while briefing journalists after visiting the affected area on Thursday afternoon.

“The victims should be provided daily necessities until the situation turns normal,” Dr Mizan said.

He asked the government: “Why must the people of Malopara become second class citizens on their own land?”

He said it was the duty of the government and the state to provide security for every citizen of the country.

“The attackers should be brought under the rule of law whatever their political identities are,” he said. 

Jessore district administration on Thursday formed a three-member probe body headed by ANM Mainul Islam, additional deputy commissioner, general; Jessore to inquire into the attack on the Hindu minority at Malopara.

The body will submit its report within three working days.

Border Guard Bangladesh and various organisations and individuals distributed relief goods among the affected on Thursday.
