The construction of Padma bridge project, the largest infrastructure of the country, will begin from June, Communications Minister Obaidul Quader said.
The minister made the announcement in a press briefing held at Setu Bhaban on Thursday, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) reported.
The estimated Tk9,172 crore project was a commitment of the Awami League-led government rule before being re-elected in the 10th parliamentary polls.
“The construction of the huge bride would begin in June as per its design approved earlier,” Quader said.
Bridging Padma has been stained with allegations of corruption before the World Bank withdrew from its pledged aide before construction works.
The Padma bridge was one of the most-hyped incident during the rule of previous government.
On January 5, Awami League was re-elected in the 10th parliamentary elections by a landslide majority amidst polls-boycott of the BNP.
