At least 10 people were injured and about 20 vehicles vandalised when Awami Legaue and BNP supporters clashed in Chandpur Sadar on Wednesday.
The incident took place during a nationwide anti-polls hartal by the BNP-led 18-party alliance.
Awami League men brought out an anti-hartal march and vandalised local BNP office, sign-boards in Ghosher Hat area around 11:30am, witnesses said.
BNP activists retaliated and clashes ensued.
Later, Awami League supporters were said to have paraded to the residence of former BNP lawmeker GM Fazlul Kabir and vandalised his house.
In vengeance, BNP supporters vandalised at least 20 vehicles in the adjacent Parichandpur-Comilla area. They also set fire to a vehicle of local agriculture official.
Chandpur police Superintendent Amir Zafar said police forces and Fire Service and Civil Defense rushed to the spot to tackle the situation around 1pm.
Meanwhile, seven BNP and one Jamaat-e-Islami activist were detained in drives conducted in the district.
