A special court indicted Odhikar Secretary Adilur Rahman Khan and its Director AKM Nasiruddin Elan for providing distorted statistics regarding Hefazat-e-Islam's Motijheel May 5 rally.
Dhaka Cyber Crimes Tribunal Judge KM Shamsul Alam indicted the duo in their presence after dismissing a discharge petition on Wednesday morning.
Earlier, the indictment in this particular case under Communication Technology Act, 2006, under a newly-formed special tribunal, was deferred three times.
Adilur Rahman and Nasiruddin Elan are both currently on bail secured from the High Court.
On May 5, law enforcers, in a late night drive, evicted Hefazat-e-Islam from Shapla Chattar premises in the capital's Motijheel area during a rally.
Odhikar, a human rights watchdog, published a report claiming that more than 60 people were killed during the drive.
However, police rubbished the report and said that many of the victims listed did not exist in reality. A case was soon filed against the duo.
Detectives detained Adilur Rahman on August 10 for quizzing. The court later took charges into cognisance and issued arrest warrant against Elan on September 11.
Now, the judge has set the case hearing to begin from January 22.
