A woman and her 3-year-old daughter were burnt to death and six others injured in a fire that broke out in Bandarban district town yesterday afternoon.
Six dwelling houses were also burnt to ashes in the fire.
The deceased were identified as Aklima Akhter Laki, 28, wife of Nurul Islam Munna and also an informer of Detective Branch of police in the district, and her daughter Rekha.
Fire service sources said Aklima and her daughter got trapped in the house during the fire and roasted alive.
Six people were also injured when they were trying to douse the fire, but their identity could not be known immediately.
On receiving information, army personnel and fire fighters rushed to the spot and doused the blaze after one-hour of frantic efforts.
Officer-in-Charge of Bandarban Sadar police station Imtiaz Ahmed said police had sent the bodies to Bandarban Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
An unnatural death case was filed in this regard.
Newly elected MP Bir Bahadur, Deputy Commissioner KM Tarikul Islam, Municipality Mayor Jabed Reza, District Police Super Debdas Bhattyacharya and other local officials visited the spot.
But the loss of the fire could not be estimated immediately.
