Activist of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir locked in a clash with police near Karim Ullah Market area in Sylhet on Tuesday morning.
Witnesses said the activists of BNP-led 18-party alliance locked in a chase and counter chase with the law enforcers when the activists gathered at Karim Ullah Market at around 10am.
At a stage of the chase, police locked in a clash with the Jamaat-shibir activists and fired eight rounds of bullets to disperse the crowd.
No causalities incurred in the incident, however, police detained three people from the area in connection to the matter.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police Media Wing Chief Mohammad Aiyub said they were trying to find out the political background of the detainees.
Meanwhile, police foiled a procession brought out by district metropolitan BNP unit. The procession was led by Metropolitan BNP senior vice president Nasim Hossain.
