Govt firm on law & order, PM tells president

Referring to the ongoing countrywide violence, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday said the government was firmed to maintain peace in the country by controlling the law and order situation.

She came up with the determination while holding a meeting with President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban in the evening.

The president's press secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed the media about the meeting agenda around 6:45pm.

He said: " The premier informed the president about the law and order situation of the country during and after the 10th general elections.

Referring to the ongoing violence, the PM assured the President that her government was firmed to maintain the law and order situation in the country at any cost," he added.

He said the president thanked the Election Commission and the officials concerned for holding the polls in a fair manner and also congratulated the elected lawmakers for their victory.

Replying to a query whether the prime minister discussed anything about the formation of the new government with the president, he said: " As per the rule, the process of government formation starts after the EC releases gazette."

Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam and adviser to the prime minister Barrister Shafique Ahmed also attended the meeting.

Earlier, the premier entered at Bangabhaban at 4:15pm and went out around 5:45pm. It was the first meeting of the PM with the president after the 10th general polls.
