An activist of the Islami Chhatra Shibir died during clashes with police while attempting an attack on a polling station in Lohagara upazila, Chittagong on Sunday.
Police opened fire while the attack was commenced during a nationwide anti-polls hartal of the BNP-led 18-party alliance. The man died on the spot.
A gang of opposition supporters attacked Bhabanipur Government Primary School polling station around 4pm, police said. They tried to snatch away ballots.
Police opened fire at the scene, Lohagara police Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Shahjahan said. “The Shibir man died on the spot. The rest fled.”
However, the official could not ascertain the identity of the dead.
