Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rokibuddin Ahmad said the poor voter turnout was logical on technical grounds of EC’s preparation and political parties’ election boycott.
However, he did not elaborate the technical grounds of the EC’s preparation.
The CEC made the remark at a press conference at the Election Commission office on Sunday afternoon.
He said: “One of the reasons for poor turnout is political parties’ election boycott.”
“Voters in northern districts could not come to polling centres due to dense fog in the morning. But the number of voters is increasing now,” he added.
In response to questions regarding fake voters, he said: “The polling officers give ballot papers checking identity cards of the voters. The current situation is dynamic. Everything will be clarified after the voting ends.”
He said the commission is looking into allegations from the law enforcers and that they will take action if evidence is found.
