Voters were low in attendance in the first hour of voting through two constituencies of Rajshahion Sunday morning, what officials blamed on weather.
There are 180 polling centres in Rajshahi-3 and Rajshahi-6 constituencies. However, barely more than 500 votes were cast throughout 150 polling stations until 9:30am.
Deputy commissioner of Rajshahi and district Returning Officer Mesbah Uddin said the poor voter attendance was because of morning chill.
He hoped that the attendance would grow as time progresses.
The voting is taking place during a nationwide anti-polls hartal of the BNP-led 18-party alliance.
However, the voters had mixed reactions regarding votes. They were fearing for their security amidst threats of the main opposition BNP.
Some even voiced opinions against the elections. A voter, Tajul, who was a voter of Parina union, said there was no benefit in voting for “one-sided polls.”
