A presiding officer of a polls centre for the 10th national election was killed in a road accident near Samanta Bazar in Jhenaidah on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Abul Bashar, 40, son of Harej Ali of Satpota village under Moheshpur upazila. He was serving as a lecturer in Moheshpur Women’s college.
Moheshpur police station Officer-in-charge Anwar Hossain said Bashar was going to his polling centre with election materials when the three wheeler carrying him turned turtle as the driver lost its control around 4:30pm.
He said Bashar died on the spot.
Later, police recovered the body and sent it to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital morgue for post mortem examination.
The OC said a case was filed with Moheshpur police station in this connection. However, the driver fled the scene.
