Two buses were set on fire in the port city of Chittagong on Saturday morning during the anti-polls hartal of the BNP-led 18-party alliance.
One bus was torched in Dewanhat area around 7am during commencing hours of the hartal, Double mooring police Officer-in-Charge Motiul Islam said.
The other was torched in Nasirabad area around the same time according to Panchlaish Circle Assistant Commissioner Shah Mohammad Abdur Rouf.
No injuries were reported and no detentions could be made. Police blamed the arson on opposition activists who called the hartal.
Earlier around 9pm Friday night, one person was held with six crude bombs from Fouzdarhat, Sitakunda police station OC Iftekhar Ahmed said.
Main opposition BNP-led 18-party, who will not be joining the parliamentary elections on Sunday, called the shutdown to stop the 10th general polls.
They have called out to the government to scrap this election and call for a dialogue to hold fresh polls under non-partisan government.
The port city of Chittagong was missing the election atmosphere. The situation was tense ahead of the elections because of the political stand-off.
