A boy committed suicide by jumping into the lake of Hatirjheel project along with his girlfriend on Friday morning.
However, the girl was rescued by some vegetable vendors.
The 16-year-old boy, Ehsanul Huq Tanmoy and 15-year-old girl Shirina Rahman Meem, both were the students of class X at Provati High School at the capital’s Dilu Road, had been in an affair since last one year.
They were also in a dream of a conjugal life. But the family of the girl forcibly let her get engaged with another youth six months ago.
They had decided committing suicide together by jumping into the water of the lake.
Sub-inspector of Badda police station said both the boy and girl had appeared on the bank of Hatirjheel Lake at around 5am and had jumped together into the water.
“Earlier the teenager couple had left their own house Thursday afternoon and spent the night at different places of the capital like Dhaka University”, said SI Mosharraf quoting the girl.
Rafayat Ara Sultana, sub-inspector of Ramna police station, said Ekramul Huq, the father of the boy, had filed a general diary the police station on Thursday evening in connection with the missing of his son.
But in the morning pedestrians found both the boy and the girl floating in the water, she said.
SI Mosharraf Hossain said on information, personnel from Badda police station recovered the couple and found the boy already dead and the girl survived.
The body of the boy has been sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue.
The girl was taken to Badda police station for primary interrogation, said SI Mosharraf.
Police said the mental and physical state of the girl was not normal, she should be admitted to hospital for treatment and mental clinic for counseling.
