The 111th birth anniversary of poet Jasimuddin popularly known as pollikabi is being observed at his ancestral home in village Gobindapur located in the outskirts of the town where his grave is also situated on the bank of river Kumar.
To mark the occasion, Faridpur district administration and Jasim Foundation jointly chalked out an elaborate programme which included placing of floral wreath at the mazar of the late poet, discussion on poet's life and works and Doa Mahfil.
Accordingly this morning Faridpur district administration led by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abu Hena Morshed Zaman, Jasim Foundation, Faridpur Foundation, district shilpakala academy, Ansaruddin high school, Faridpur shahitya & sanskriti unaayan sangstha,Faridpur Shahitya Parishad, Faridpur press club and several other socio-cultural organizations placed floral wreaths at the mazar of the poet.
A discussion meeting chaired by ADC (General) Md. Jahangir Hossain was held at the mazar site where the DC was the chief guest, reports BSS.
Among others Prof MA Samad, poet's son Dr Jamal Anowar, press club president Kabirul Islam Siddiky literary personality Abul Faez Shahnawaj, cultutaral activist Mofij Imam Milon, Ngo activist Asma Aktar Mukta and cultural activist Shamima Begum were present at the occasion.
It may be mentioned here that a fortnight long village fair styled as ' Jasim Polli Mela' will begin here at the same site soon in connection with the birth anniversary of the poet.
The construction work of Jasim complex to preserve the works of the poet is nearing completion being built adjacent to his ancestral home. The project was taken up the Cultural Ministry at an estimated cost of Taka 11 crore in 2011.
