Tk3 crore cancer-medicine hauled

Customs officials hauled smuggled-in cancer-medicine worth Tk3 crore from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Tuesday.

The medicines arrived from Turkey Monday night in an Emirates Airlines flight and via DHL courier service, customs' Assistant Commissioner Kamrul Hasan said.

The haul was made from the cargo village area around afternoon, he added. “The receipient of the courier was on J Hossain addressed to Purana Paltan, Dhaka.”

“The medicines have been imported without permission from concerned authority. The name, address and phone numbers were all fake.”

Also, 1.25kg gold was seized from a luggage at the airport on Monday night, customs department Assistant Commissioner Kazi Wazed Ali said.

The gold arrived from Dubai and landed Dhaka in an Emirates Airlines flight around 11pm, he said. “The owner of the luggage has been identified as Rafiqul Islam.”

The estimated cost of the gold was around 50 lakh, the official said.
