300 magistrates to oversee polls

Update : 30 Dec 2013, 12:38 PM

The government has appointed 300 executive magistrates to oversee the law and order situation and election anomalies during the upcoming 10th general elections.

The public administration ministry on Monday issued a notification in this regard.

According to the notice, the magistrates were given the magistracy power to take immediate action, if it’s necessary to control the law and order situation and prevent election irregularities.

The order signed by senior assistant secretary for public administration Rezaul Karim stated that at least two magistrates out of the 300 would discharge their duties in each of the 147 electoral constituencies where the polls would be held.

They would discharge their duties from January 3 and January 6.

The executive magistrates who have been working in different ministries and divisions would return to their main job after January 6, it said.
