Members of civil society have demanded the cancellation of the ‘one-sided’ elections slated for January 5.
They came up with the demand in a discussion on Saturday held at a city hotel on Saturday afternoon.
Members of Transparency International Bangladesh, Centre for Policy Dialogue, Ain O Salish Kendra, and Sushasoner Jonno Nagorik spoke at the discussion titled 'Bangladesh in Crisis: Citizens Thought'.
“This election will not bring any good result to the country, rather will deepen the crisis,” CPD Chairman Rehman Sobhan said.
TIB chairman Dr Iftekharuzzaman said: “We as well as our politicians are living in a dark situation. The ongoing violent situation and the one-sided polls must be stopped as well.”
Prominent lawyer Barrister Rafique-ul Huq said: “The ongoing situation will be continued if the two leaders [Hasina, Khaleda] do not come to a compromise.”
The discussion was moderated by CPD fellow Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya.
