Over 70 opposition supporters were arrested from Chittagong district over recent violence cases in overnight drive until Saturday morning.
Thirty-five BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami activists were arrested from the city, Chittagong Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner (crime and operations) Banaj Kumar Majumder said.
About 36 more opposition supporters were arrested elsewhere throughout the district, Chittagong central police control room said.
They were all arrested over various cases regarding recent violence cases in the area.
The arrests were made during nationwide crackdown on violence ahead of the upcoming January 5 elections, which the BNP said will resist.
