2nd day-operation: 152 held in capital

Some 152 people were arrested during the second day-operation conducted by joint forces in the capital early on Friday.

The operation was conducted in six police station areas under Mirpur Division from 12am to 6am.

According to sources in concerned police stations, 86 people were arrested in Mirpur, 23 in Darussalam, 15 in Rupnagar, eight in Kafrul, seven in Pallabi, seven in Bhashantek, and six in Shah Ali.

However, Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Masudur Rahman said more than 100 people were arrested during the operation in the Mirpur area, although he could not specify the total number of people arrested.

Meer Nasir Ali, younger brother of detained War Crimes accused Meer Quashem Ali, was one among the 56 people arrested in Mirpur Police Station area, said the sources.

Earlier, some 25 people were arrested by the joint forces in combination with the personnel from the Police, Border Guard (BGB) and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) during the launching period of the operation in Jatrabari, Demra and Kadomtoli.

The special drives have been launched in the capital before the national election, which is scheduled to be held on January 5.

On Wednesday, Joint Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Monirul Islam said the special drives would continue in and around the capital.
