Ganajagaran Mancha handed a memorandum to the commerce ministry on Thursday seeking a halt to import products from Pakistan to Bangladesh.
The Mancha also sought a bar for Pakistan to refain the country from participating in the upcoming Dhaka International Trade Fair expected to begin next month.
Mancha spokesperson Imran H Sarker led a handful of organisers and handed over the memorandum to Commerce Secretary Mahbub Ahmed at 3:30pm.
Bangladesh imports Tk3,914 crore worth products from Pakistan, which is 1.07% of the total import in the country, the memorandum said.
Imran H Sarker said they requested the commerce ministry to stop this import and bar Pakistan from participating in the DITF-2014.
“The commerce secretary assured us that a decision will be taken after discussing the issue with foreign ministry and the Export Promotion Bureau,” Sarker said.
Mancha began its move against Pakistan after the country's parliament adopted a resolution on executed Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdul Quader Molla for his crimes against humanity during Liberation War in 1971.
