Three first year students have been suspended for a year by Dhaka university authority for sexual harassment and physical abuse of three female students.
Acting proctor Professor Amzad Ali told the Dhaka Tribune they imposed the punishment on Tuesday night, as the culprits violated university norms.
Guilty students were Md. Shahab of development studies, Tomok Hossain and Kajol Ahmed Abir from Philosophy department. All are first year students.
A BCL leader of the campus seeking anonymity confirmed their involvement with his organisation. However he also explained all the students of first year who resides at university dormitory are compelled to involve with all the programs of the student wing of ruling party at campus.
Earlier on Friday evening, the suspended students had harassed three female students of Fine arts institute while they were passing Zahurul Haq Hall by rickshaw. When the women protested, they beat them indiscriminately.
