2 more arson attack victims die

Two victims of separate arson attacks during the recent nationwide violence succumbed to their burn injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Mohammad Majedul, 25, a truck helper and son of Mohammad Isahaq from Naogaon Sadar, succumbed to 90% burn injuries at 11:30pm Tuesday.

On December 21, pickets hurled a petrol bomb and set a truck ablaze in Baingati, Sirajganj during a nationwide blockade.

The truck's driver, Mohammad Shahin, 30, and his helper Majedul were burned at the scene. Shahin is in critical condition and is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Nazrul Islam, 35, another truck driver and son of Mohammad Fazar Ali from Kalihati, Tangail, succumed to 20% burn injuries at 12:45am on Wednesday.

Pickets had set set his truck on fire in Shafipur, Gazipur during the nationwide blockade on Monday.

Partha Shankar Pal, resident surgeon of DMCH's burn unit, confirmed both of the casualties.

Over 150 people died in the past few months as a result of the violence ensuing from the disparity between the two major political parties' views on how the January 5 national polls should be held.

Moreover, the Jamaat-e-Islami unleashed nationwide violence after their leader Abdul Quader Molla was executed on December 12.
