Teachers at Pabna University of Science and Technology formed a human chain in front of the administrative building of the university yesterday morning, demanding the appointment of a vice-chancellor for the university.
Teachers from all departments joined the human chain, which was held in front of the administrative building of the university around 11am.
During the human chain, the teachers said there was deadlock at the university, as there has been no vice-chancellor for the last month.
Teachers of the university have already submitted memorandums to the Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid and President Abdul Hamid, but no steps have been taken to appoint a new VC for the university.
Former VC Professor Mozaffar Hossain ended his four year tenure as VC on November 22. He left the university on November, 23, since then the university has had no VC, which is not only hampering administrative activities, but also academic activities.
“After the departure of the former VC, we submitted a memorandum to the honourable president and education minister on November 25, seeking the appointment of a new VC. But the government is yet to appoint a VC,” said Shamim Reza, secretary of the university teachers’ association.
The university authority could not make preparations for admission test for the 2013-14 academic session untill now because of the absence of a vice-chancellor.
“December is ending, but the university could not set the admissions test, although it is usually completed within November,” said Rashedul Haque, chairman of the Civil Engineering Department of the university.
