State Minister for Law Advocate Quamrul Islam said the Hefazat-e-Islam would not be allowed to hold its rally on December 24.
He made the statement during a meeting at the party's office in Bangabandhu Avenue on Sunday afternoon.
“People have witnessed their [Hefazat] ferocity during their previous rally. They will not be allowed to do so this time,” said Quamrul.
He added: “BNP, Jamaat and Hefazat are all the same. They want to incite anarchy under the guise of a rally.”
The December rally of Hefazat would have been the second time in the capital's Motijheel if they are permitted to hold it.
The date for the rally has been called just weeks ahead of the January 5 national elections amidst an agitation programme by the BNP-led 18-party alliance.
On May 5, law enforcers evicted Hefazat supporters from a rally in Motijheel during a late night drive. The day was marked with violence and tension throughout Paltan and adjacent areas.
