A middle-aged man breached the security of Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday morning and entered the chamber of Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Sunday.
The minister was at a meeting with Canadian high commissioner to Dhaka Heather Cruden at his office when the man, apparently mentally-challenged, entered.
The man beckoned the finance minister during the meeting before Muhith himself took charge and handed the man over to the custody of security around 12:30pm.
The man claimed himself to be Shakil, from Narsinghdi. He spoke in the accent of someone from Mymensingh and was around 50 years of age.
“I am the owner of this country (Bangladesh),” he said upon primary interrogation. “I wanted to see the finance minister and that's why I came.”
However, it remained unclear how the man got inside secretariat premises without a security clearance.
Secretariat branch police Additional Deputy Commissioner Mashiur Rahman was interrogating the man during the time of filing this report.
