Premium income of Bangladesh’s private sector insurance companies increased by Tk1.72bn in 2012, growing 10% compared to 2011, said Bangladesh Insurance Association (BIA).
BIA report showed the 2012 income rose to Tk19bn from the Tk17.27bn in 2011.
BIA presented its annual report on Friday, at its 26th annual general meeting, chaired by its president Sheikh Kabir Hossain.
According to the report, in the period from December 31, 2011 to December 31, 2012, the total premium of private sector life insurance companies rose to Tk62.48bn from Tk59.73bn with an approximate growth of 4.6%.
In the same period, life funds increased to TK194.55bn from Tk164.22bn
The total investments from life insurances rose from Tk142.17bn to Tk166.13bn while the total assets from the sector stood at Tk224.08bn against Tk188.54bn in 2011.
The total investments from non-life insurances soared to Tk24.37bn from Tk21.96bn.
BIA said the total assets from the sector stood at Tk48.62bn while the figure was Tk42.06bn in 2011.
