Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid her tribute to veteran politician and Awami League Presidium Member Syeda Zohra Tajuddin.
Hasina placed wreaths on her coffin in front of the central AL office in the capital’s Bangabandhu Avenue, Friday afternoon.
After placing wreaths, the prime minister stood in solemn silence for some time beside the coffin, draped with the national flag, as a sign of respect to the memory of Zohra Tajuddin, also the wife of country's first Prime Minister Tajuddin Ahmed.
Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, flanked by central party leaders, laid another wreath on the coffin of the late Awami League leader as the party chief.
Later, a prayer was offered seeking eternal peace for the departed soul of Zohra Tajuddin.
The prime minister’s former adviser HT Imam, senior AL leaders Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, engineer Mosharaf Hossain, Satish Chandra Roy, Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, Syed Ashraf Islam, Dr Abdur Razzaque, PM's Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad, among others, were present during the occasion.
Earlier, the prime minister visited United Hospital to see the body of Zohra Tajuddin.
Zohra Tajuddin died in the capital’s United Hospital on Friday morning. She was 80.
