Gunmen fatally shot a town mayor and three other people at the airport in Manila on Friday, authorities said.
Ukol Talumpa was the mayor of the town called Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur.
The attack ensued when gunmen shot him from close range while he waited outside the airport terminal with his family, airport manager Jose Honrado said.
"We are still investigating the motive," he said. Meanwhile, Talumpa’s family refused to comment.
The police-uniform clad gunmen escaped on a motorcycle.
Notably, Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport, where the incident occurred, is named after the politician Benigno Aqunio, who was shot dead there in 1983 on his return from self-exile.
