Police and the Ganajagaran Mancha activists were locked in a scuffle when the activists were marching to the Pakistan High Commission at Gulshan-2 on Thursday afternoon demanding cancellation of all diplomatic relations with Islamabad.
Imran H Sarker was admitted to Labaid Hospital with several injuries, Muktijoddha Sangsad organiser and freedom fighter MA Awal said.
Ganajagaran Mancha activist Lucky Aktar told the Dhaka Tribune that police have been detained eight of their activists so far.
The police also detained Bangladesh Chhatra Moitry organiser Shammi Aktar, reports our correspondent Abu Bakar Siddique.
Law enforcers charged batons at the activists who were chanting slogans condemning the Pakistani parliament's resolution on Quader Molla.
The Mancha activists claim that several more have been injured as the police proceeded to charge at the protesters.
The roadside shops within the area were immediately shuttered down amid the scuffle.
The situation was brought under control by the police by 4:30pm.
Earlier on Wednesday, Ganajgaran Mancha gave an ultimatum to the government to temporarily break off any diplomatic relations with Islamabad by 3pm today [Thursday] and warned of a non-stop sit-in programme if the demand was not met.
On Monday, the Pakistan National Assembly adopted a resolution expressing concern over Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdul Quader Molla's execution for his crimes against humanity during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.
