SP hurt in Satkhira Jamaat attack

Assistant Police Super of Sadar circle Moniruzzaman sustained injuries as the unruly Jamaat-Shibir activists launched a sudden attack on law enforcers Roispur area in Satkhira, a Jamaat strong-hold, on Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, a Jamaat activist, Aminul Islam Babul, 40, received bullet injuries during the attack attempt and was admitted to Satkhira Sadar Hospital. Dr Riazul Islam of the hospital said Aminul received a bullet to his leg.

However, the district Jamaat-e-Islami claimed that at least five of their activists received bullet wound during the chase and counter chase with the law enforcers. Jamaat district unit Publicity Secretary Azizur Rahman informed the Dhaka Tribune about the injuries and claimed that injured Aminul succumbed to his injuries.

But, the residential medical officer of Satkhira Sadar Hospital said although doctors have cut off his leg, Aminul's condition was stable.

Satkhira Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Enamul Haque said: “The unruly activists of Jamaat-Shibir suddenly launched an attack on a team of petrol police around 9:30am that ensued a clash between the law enforcers and the activists. The chase and counter chase left Assistant Police Super Moniruzzaman injured.

Later, police fired tear cell and rubber bullets to bring the situation under control, leaving Aminul injured. Police nabbed five Jamaat-Shibir members from the spot," he added.
