Rab gets 2 more battalions

Two more battalions have been added to the elite crime fighting force Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), adding up to a total of 14 battalions.

According to Rab officials, the newly added Battalion-13 will cover eight districts of the Rangpur division and Battalion-14 will cover six districts - Mymensingh, Kishoreganj, Netrokona, Brahmanbaria, Sherpur and Jamalpur.

 Lt Col Md Imran Ibne A Rouf has been made the commanding officer (CO) for Rab-13 and Additional Deputy Inspector General Muhammad Lokman Hakim the CO of Rab-14, said Wing Commander ATM Habibur Rahman, Director of the Rab Legal and Media Wing.

Each of the battalions has a 688-member staff, including a director, six deputy directors, 35 assistant directors, 54 deputy assistant directors, 130 sub-inspectors and sergeants, 152 assistant sub-inspectors, 35 nayeks and 236 constables.

The Rab was formed in 2004 with the forces from six government agencies — Bangladesh Police, Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy, Bangladesh Air Forces, Border Guard Bangladesh and Ansar alongside civil forces for administration purposes.
