Update : 18 Dec 2013, 02:23 PM

The Chancery unit of police in cooperation with the Crime Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have intensified security measures with the deployment of additional forces and beefed up vigilance for the Pakistan High Commission and its officials.

Kamal Hossain, senior assistant commissioner of the Chancery unit, told the Dhaka Tribune: “Security measures for the entire diplomatic zone had been beefed up since the last few months. But the measures have been tightened following the protest in Bangladesh over Pakistan’s Parliament resolution on war criminal Abdul Quader Molla’s execution.”

The Chancery police official said as part of the security measures, deployment both uniformed and plain-clothed of forces has been increased alongside the vigilance and patrolling surrounding the Pakistan High Commission.

“Besides, the residences of the Pakistani diplomats and other officials have also been brought under our security net,” said Chancery AC Kamal Hossain.

“The measures have been taken to avert any kind of untoward incident in Pakistan mission and other embassies in the diplomatic zone,” he said.

Witnesses said a large number of additional forces from police and Rab were seen deployed surrounding the Pakistan High Commission and residence of its envoy.
