Nine supporters of Jamaat-e-Islami were nabbed in a crackdown conducted through Patgram upazila, Lalmonirhat in an overnight raid of the joint forces.
The drive, conducted by paramilitary Border Guard Bangladesh, elite force Rapid Action Battalion and police jointly, was conducted early on Wednesday.
Patgram police Officer-in-Charge Sohrab Hossain confirmed that nine Jamaat-Shibir activists were nabbed during the drive.
They were being held at Patgram Police Station for interrogation, he said. However, identities of the detainees could not be obtained immediately.
Lalmonirhat circle police Assistant Superintendent Mahfuzul Alam said such drives will continue in sensitive areas to nab those involved with violence and sabotage.
The crackdown was conducted in wake of violence throughout the country ahead of upcoming elections and after the execution of Jamaat leader Abdul Quader Molla.
