Election Working Group (EWG), a national level network consisting of 31 national and regional NGOs working towards promoting free and fair elections, on Tuesday stated it would not monitor the 10th general election if the ongoing violence continues.
EWG spokesperson Taleya Rehman made the announcement while addressing the press after holding a meeting with the Election Commission on Tuesday.
She said: “We will not send our representative to monitor the polls if the ongoing political violence continues.
The EC has also agreed with us and promised to ensure securities during the polls,” she added.
The organisation also handed over a report on the environment of the upcoming election. The report stated that at present the country does not have the suitable environment to hold the 10th general election.
