Khandker Mosharraf: Manpower export out of blockade effect

Update : 17 Dec 2013, 08:00 AM

Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Engineer Khandker Mosharraf Hossain said that manpower exports have not been hindered by the ongoing blockades and hartals enforced by the 18-party opposition alliance.

He made the statement in a press conference held at Probashi Kollan Bhaban in capital’s Eskaton on Tuesday morning. The press conference was organised regarding the International Migration Day, which is to be observed across the globe on Wednesday.

Answering a query about the fall in manpower export, he said: “This is not because of the failure of the government but it’s because of the rescission and decrease in demand of manpower in some countries.”

Some 607,000 people were sent to different countries last year, while approximately 389,000 were sent by December 12 this year.

Minister Khandker said BNP had sent some 1,300,000 people abroad during their five year tenure, while ruling Awami League has sent 2,400,000 people.
