Update : 15 Dec 2013, 09:24 AM

The cabinet committee meeting on the law and order situation of the country has ended on Sunday evening.

However, no official briefing on what has been discussed with high-ups came to the media after the meeting.

Earlier at 3pm, authorities sat in discussions over the law and order situation of the country amidst on-going violence ahead of the Victory Day and national polls.

Relief and Disaster Management Minister Amir Hossain Amu presided over the meeting where Posts and Telecommunication Minister Rashed Khan Menon, Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud, Textiles Minister Abdul Latif Siddiqui, junior Home Minister Shamshul Hoque Tuku and junior Law Minister Quamrul Islam were present.

Also, the director generals of paramilitary BGB, elite force Rab, and the inspector general of police were present at the meeting.

On Saturday, state minister for home affairs, Tuku, told the Dhaka Tribune that the law enforcers were given the “highest directives” to deal with law and order.

A fresh spate of violence was unveiled after the execution of convicted war criminal, “Butcher of Mirpur,” Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdul Quader Molla.

Meanwhile, the agitation programmes of the main opposition BNP over polls-disparity were also running parallel ahead of the January 5 elections.

Over a hundred lives have been lost through October, November and the running December because of these violence.
