Twelve Islami Chhatra Shibir activists were detained from Sylhet city in raids ahead and during Sunday, the day marking a nationwide hartal of the Jamaat-e-Islami.
Rab 9 spokesperson Commander M Rashed Sattar identified the detainees as Parvez Ahmed, president of Modon Mohon Chhatra Shibir unit, and Abdul Hamid.
Ten Shibir activists were detained in overnight raids through the city, Sylhet Metropolitan Police spokesperson Mohammad Ayub said.
However, the officials could not provide further details.
Meanwhile, hartal supporters blasted crude bombs from a flash procession in Pathantula area around 9:30am, witnesses said.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner SM Rokon Uddin said the hartal was passing peacefully in his city.
