Further steps regarding the execution of Abdul Quader Molla, “the Butcher of Mirpur,” would be taken after directives are issued, authorities said Thursday.
“We heard Molla’s review petition was rejected,” Inspector General of Prisons Mainuddin Khandaker told the Dhaka Tribune.
“But we have yet to receive any formal letters from the court,” he said.
The review petition of Abdul Quader Molla was dismissed by the Appellate Division on Thursday, what officials said left no more bars to the execution of Quader Molla.
However, further instructions were yet to reach the jail authorities, where Quader Molla awaits his execution.
“We will speak to the authorities and take further steps regarding Quader Molla, once the court sends us a formal letter,” Manuddin Khandaker said.
“We will see to it that the convict Quader Molla is not deprived of any of his rights,” he added.
On Wednesday, army man Brigadier General Syed Iftkhar Uddin was made new Inspector General of Prisons. However, Iftkhar Uddin would be taking over the duty after five days.
The move was made five days after Mainuddin Khandaker was made IG (prisons) ahead of the upcoming national elections.
