Mostafa Hawlader, the murdered prosecution witness against condemned war criminal Delawar Hossain Sayedee, was laid to rest yesterday at his family graveyard in Pirojpur.
A namaz-e-janaza was held at the Parerhat Rajlakhsmi School ground around 10am. Administrative and police officials, Awami League leaders and locals joined the funeral prayers.
Before that, family members of the victim and local AL leaders at a brief rally blamed BNP-Jamaat-Shibir activists for the killing. They demanded exemplary punishment of the killers and also asked the government to ensure the safety and security of war crimes case witnesses and their families.
The body reached Mostafa’s Hoglabunia village in Parerhat of Zianagar upazila on Tuesday night with police protection after an autopsy at Dhaka medical College Hospital where he succumbed to injuries.
Miscreants hacked Mostafa, 58, with sharp weapons in his house early Sunday. His wife Hasina Begum also sustained minor injuries as she tried to resist the attackers who entered the house by digging the earthen floor.
They were first admitted to Pirojpur General Hospital and then Mostafa was sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to the DMCH.
After the incident, victim’s brother Abdul Majid lodged the attempt to murder case with Indurkani police. Following Mostafa’s death, the case turned into a murder case on Tuesday.
The six people arrested in this connection were sent to jail on Tuesday evening after the police produced them at a court. They would be produced before the court on December 15 after holding an identification parade of the arrestees.
