Taranco: Parties to disclose meeting results

Update : 11 Dec 2013, 03:59 PM

United Nations Assistant Secretary General Oscar Fernandez-Taranco said the parties will disclose the dialogue results in their own time and manner.

Regarding the decisions made in the dialogue, the UN envoy said: “I am not here to go into details of the decisions made in the dialogue.”

He added: “When the parties are ready to share, what they have discussed, what they have agreed, they will do so in their own time and their own manner.”

The UN envoy made the statement in his 30-minute official briefing at Hotel Sonargaon on Wednesday evening.

Meanwhile, he said issues of violence have been discussed with all the parties.

“I strongly believe a solution to the current deadlock is still possible if there is a political will, leadership and attitude of compromise,” Taranco said.

Taranco said the leaders of the two major political parties in Bangladesh have agreed to continue the dialogue towards resolving the ongoing political deadlock.

Taranco visited Bangladesh on deputation of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon for what is being said "to broker a political deal" ahead of the elections.

During his visit, Taranco have met the prime minister, opposition leader, leaders of major political parties and civil society for finding a way to resolve the ongoing crisis over the polls.

Two secretary-level meetings were held between the two parties after such talks began on Tuesday in mediation of Taranco.

The UN envoy will leave Dhaka Wednesday night wrapping up his five-day visit.
