Update : 10 Dec 2013, 03:46 PM

Security throughout the country was heightened on Tuesday night ahead of the execution of Jamaat-e-Islami leader and war criminal Abdul Quader Molla.

Deployment of paramilitary force Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), elite force Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and regular law enforcement were strengthened, sources said.

They have been asked to remain on highest alert for subversive activities ahead and after the execution of Quader Molla, sources inside home ministry said.

“Measures have been taken as part of pre-cautionary measures to check any ill-attempt by deterioration of law and order situation,” junior Home Minister Shamsul Huq Tuku said.

The State Minister said all the security forces have been asked to remain highest alert and vigilant.

Law enforcers were seen deployed through all key points in the capital. Patrols of Rab and BGB forces were seen more frequent on streets.

Home ministry Additional Secretary Kamal Uddin Ahmed told the Dhaka Tribune security measure was beefed up following reports from intelligence agencies.
