Quader Molla dead man walking

The convicted war criminal Quader Molla will be executed after midnight.

State Minister for Home Shamasul Haque Tuku notified reporters Tuesday evening.

All preparations has been taken to execute Jamaat-e-Islami assistant secretary general Abdul Quader Molla, Tuku said.

“All the judicial process has already been completed and his death warrant has already issued. The order will be executed tonight,” the state minister said while briefing reporters at Minister’s Apartment in the capital.

Speaking with the Dhaka Tribune, Inspector General of Prison Mainuddin Khandaker said: “As per the order of the authorities concerned, the state minister for home said Quader Molla would be executed tonight.”

Additionally, State Minister for Law Quamrul Islam, at a live telecast function of a private television, said Quader Molla  was asked whether he would seek the presidential clemency in the presence of two magistrates.

He refused to seek the mercy of the president, Quamrul added.

He said the defence lawyers have spread many misleading information.

Senior Jail Super of Dhaka central jail Forman Ali said Quader Molla would be hanged at 12:01am.

Earlier in the day, The family members of Quader Molla have been asked to meet the convicted Jamaat-e-Islami leader in prison by 8pm Tuesday.

Dhaka Central Jail authority has issued a letter in this regard around 5:15pm.

The full verdict of this Jamaat leader said death was the only just punishment for his crimes committed against humanity during 1971.

Within three days of publication of Quader Molla’s full verdict, the first complete verdict of the International Crimes Tribunal, his death warrant was issued.

Earlier, Quader Mollah had asked his counsel for filing a petition to review the verdict but did not decide on the presidential clemency.
