President in S Africa to pay homage to Mandela

President Abdul Hamid arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa on early Tuesday to pay homage to former South African President and anti-apartheid hero Nelson Mandela on behalf of himself and the people of Bangladesh.

On his arrival at the airport, via a special Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight, the president was received by South African Minister in the Presidency Collins Chabane and Bangladesh High Commissioner to South Africa Md Touhid Hossain, reports BSS.

President Abdul Hamid will pay his final respects to the memories of the legendary leader along with other heads of state and government at a memorial service at a stadium in Johannesburg on Tuesday.

The President is expected to return home on December 12 after paying his respects to modern South Africa's founding father who passed away on Thursday at the age of 95.
