A suspected activist of Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, was killed in a blast while making bombs at a house in Yeakubnagar area under Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong district on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Russell, an activist of Sitakunda unit Chhatra Shibir.
Two other Shibir activists were also injured in the explosion, our Chittagong correspondent reports quoting police. However, police could not confirm the identities of the activists.
Syed Iqbal Ali, assistant superintendent of police (ASP) of Sitakunda Circle, told the Dhaka Tribune: “The Shibir men were making bombs at the house in the area. Suddenly, the bomb exploded around 10pm, leaving Russell dead on the spot and two others injured.”
After being informed by the locals, police reached at the spot and recovered Russell’s body along with the blood-stained clothes and some bomb-making materials, said Iqbal Ali.
He further said locals informed police that they saw two injured people fled the scene immediately after the explosion.
Investigation was underway and the law enforcers were also looking for those injured Shibir members, he added.
