President leaves for South Africa

President Abdul Hamid has left for South Africa on a three-day visit to pay homage to anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela on behalf of himself and the people of Bangladesh.

The President departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by a special Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight at 4:15pm, reports BSS.

President Hamid is scheduled to attend a programme in South Africa and pay respect to the memories of the legendary leader along with other heads of state and government.

He is expected to return home on December 12 after the occasion celebrating modern South Africa's founding father who died on Thursday at the age of 95.

The president is being accompanied by secretaries of his office.
