A witness against war criminal Delwar Hossain Sayedee, along with his wife, has come under attack in Pirojpur, early Sunday.
The victims are Mustafa Hawlader, 58, a witness against Jamaat Leader and convicted war criminal Sayedee in case of crimes against humanity, and his wife Hasina Begum, 50.
Hafizur, the couple’s son, said his parents were attacked by miscreants.
Hafizur said: “The condition of my father is critical as he received severe injuries on his eye and forehead.”
Kamruzzaman, Zia Nagar police station Officer-in-Charge, said some unidentified miscreants breached Mustafa’s home by digging through the mud-floor at around 2am.
Kamruzzaman said: “Sensing the presence of the miscreants, Hasina Begum started hollering at her family members for help. At one stage, the criminals hit Hasina with a crowbar, leaving her injured.
Hearing Hasina’s cries, Mustafa woke up and tried to catch the miscreants. But they managed to flee the scene by hitting Mustafa on his head with the same crowbar,” he added.
Family members said both the injured were admitted to Pirojpur General Hospital. Later, they were transferred to Khulna Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Doctors referred Mustafa to DMCH on the same day as his condition deteriorated.
