Man of Steel sequel presents Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman

Update : 05 Dec 2013, 06:04 PM

Gal Gadot, an Israeli model and actor known in Tinseltown for her starring role in the Fast and Furious film franchise, was chosen for the iconic role of Wonder Woman in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel. The film’s current working title is Batman vs. Superman.

Gadot will star in the action movie alongside Ben Affleck, who is set to play Batman, and Henry Cavill, who already assumed the role of Superman in the 2013 flick. Zack Snyder will be directing the movie, which is scheduled to open in July 2015.

“Wonder Women! So exciting!!! Can’t express how happy I am,” Gadot tweeted on Wednesday.

“Not only is Gal an amazing actor, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role,” said Snyder. “We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.”

In addition to her role in Fast and Furious 6 with Vin Diesel and Paul Walker, and in addition to two previous Fast and Furious films, Gadot acted in Hollywood films Knight and Day and Date Night.

Wonder Woman is a larger-than-life icon, a character who has existed for more than 70 years. She will probably still be important when everyone breathing now is dead. But for the last decade, she has existed most prominently as a casting rumor.

They tried making a movie out of her, or several movies, or a Justice League movie that would’ve produced a Wonder Woman spin-off. For more than 10 years, the idea of a human female playing Wonder Woman onscreen has been a hotly contested debate, conducted in dark rooms between producers and in the internet echo chamber.
