At least 25 people, including the district BNP president, were injured in a clash between BNP and police at Mirer Bazar in Gazipur, during the countrywide blockade on Wednesday.
Police said BNP activists had brought out a procession at Mirer Bazar sometime around 11am in support of the blockade.
Later, the blockade supporters hurled crude bombs and brickbats targeting the law enforcers that triggered the altercation.
At one point, police fired rubber bullets and teargas shells that left 25 people, including district BNP president AKM Fazlul Haque Milon, injured.
District BNP Joint General Secretary Mazharul Islam said, of the injured, four of them were rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Bangladesh Medical College Hospital while the rest of them were treated at local clinics.
Joydebpur Police Station’s Pubail Outpost In-Charge Sub-Inspector Hariz Uddin said Constable Parvez was injured by a handmade bomb exploding.
Meanwhile, police arrested six people in connection to the incident.
On the other hand, local BNP called in a daylong hartal in in the district for Thursday protesting the incident.
