Abducted college girl rescued in Jhenidah border

After being abducted five months ago, a female college student was rescued from the border area near Moheshpur in Jhenidah district yesterday.

Police and family members of the victim said after being rescued she described to a magistrate, in detail, the torture she had been through.

The victim Shima Saha [not her real name], 17, hailed from Dhonbari village in Tangail.

Police said Saha was abducted from Mymensingh while on her way to tuition for medical school admission exams on July 2 this year.

She was kept at the abductor’s residence in the basin area of the Teesta river in Kisamot Chinatuli village under Lalmonirhat sadar upazila.

The victim’s mother lodged a case with Mymensingh Kotwali model police station, accusing Shah Sultan Ahmed Raju, 26, and his parents Abdul Jabbar, 56, and Sahera Begum, 46, all residents of Kisamot Chinatoli village under Lalmonirhat sadar upazila.

A team, led by Lalmonirhat sadar police station Sub-Inspector Zahurul Islam, raided the abductor’s residence to rescue Shima on the night of August 25. The abductor managed to flee the scene.

Mymensingh district police arrested the abductor’s mother, Sahera Begum, near Rowmari in Kurigram district on November 27.

Following her statement, police rescued the girl from a house near Moheshpur in Jhenidah district on Sunday.

The victim’s brother in-law Krishna Chandra Saha said they were happy to get Shima back.

He demanded police arrest the abductor and ensure his punishment.

Additional Superintendent of Police Aslam Khan said police were trying hard to arrest the absconding abductor as soon as possible.
