Bangladesh bag seven gold on day two

Bangladesh athletes bagged seven gold medals in the second day of the inaugural Special Olympic Asia Pacific Games in Australia.

After failing to win any gold on the first day, Bangladesh won seven gold, one silver and one bronze while the cricket and football teams also reached the final of their respective discipline.

Bangladesh cricket team crushed hosts Australia by eight wickets to move to the final. In football, Bangladesh beat Australia and India to reach the final of both 11-a-side and 5-a-side events. All the finals will be held on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the pairs of Ashikul Islam-Mizanur Rahman and Munni Akter-Rabeya Khatun clinched gold in men’s doubles and womne’s doubles of Badminton discipline respectively. Chaity and Humayan also grabbed gold in the men’s and women’s event respectively in Athletics discipline.

Parul Akter finished first in the 50metre breaststroke in swimming’s women’s event. Mishti won silver in women’s long jump while Ratan earned bronze in men’s long jump.

A 117-member Bangladesh contingent went to the inaugural Special Olympics Asia Pacific Games where athletes from 30 Asia Pacific and East Asia regions are competing.
